‘Fairy Lights’ - an original song for Coca-Cola Christmas In The Park

In 2011, the year of the Christchurch Earthquake, the Coca-Cola Christmas In The Park team put a call out for original Christmas songs.

After the earthquake, the Christchurch Central Business District and red zones were plunged into darkness. In writing this song, I wanted to subtly acknowledge the city’s desire to see the ‘fairy lights’ of the city once again. I also wanted to acknowledge the many loved ones who had been lost in the quake, the fairy lights of candles lit at Christmas to remember them.

Recording (Folk arrangement) 2011

Big sounding songs, unfortunately… can take impossibly massive budgets to record! I self-produced & released (with the generous help of those who contributed to my crowdfunding campaign - thank you! ) a low-budget, understated folk-style arrangement of the song. Bass - Richie Pickard, Drums - Tim Sellars. Produced/Engineered by Kevin Allison at Angelsgate Studios.
